Arkansas Senate Bill 668 and 741: Barring Internet Dissemination of Harmful to Minors Material

Arkansas Senate Bills 668 and 741 would apply the state's harmful to minors law to material distributed generally on the Internet.

Most Recent News: S.B. 668 was ultimately pulled prior to its hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Media Coalition on March 15 sent a memo in opposition to S.B. 668 and S.B. 741 to Arkanasas' Senate Judiciary Committee. S.B. 741 was not called at the Judiciary Committee hearing for which it was scheduled, and no further action is pending with little time left in Arkansas' legislative session.

On March 2, Media Coalition sent a memo asking the Senate to reconsider S.B. 668. The memo argues that the bill's application of the state's existing harmful to minors law to the Internet is an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment because it infringes on adults' right to view material that may be inappropriate for minors but is not illegal for those who have reached the age of majority.
