Justice John Paul Stevens Announces His Retirement Plans

On April 9, 2010, Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens announced that he will resign at the end of the Court's current session. Justice Stevens served on the Court for 35 years and thus holds the record as the fourth-longest-serving Justice.

At the First Amendment Center, Tony Mauro hails Justice Stevens as a "strong friend of the First Amendment."
