Virginia v. American Booksellers Assn., Inc.,
882 F. 2d 125 (4th Cir. 1989) (after remand from U. S. Supreme Court); 792 F. 2d 1261 (4th Cir. 1986)

In August 1989, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Virginia's minors access law in the Media Coalition case Virginia v. American Booksellers Association.  However, the decision to uphold the law came after a response to questions certified by the United States Supreme Court on January 25, 1988, led to the Virginia Supreme Court to narrow Virginia's minor access law so that it applied only to "borderline obscenity."
