2006 LETTERS AND MEMOS IN OPPOSITION
Florida House Bill 647 -- This bill would bar the sale of video
games with certain violent content to anyone under 18, impose fines, and
require labeling.
Hawaii House Bill 2885 -- This bill would bar the display of any “adult entertainment products”
to anyone off the premises and require that they be segregated from other products within the store by a curtain, screen, or other device.
Kansas House Bill 2680 -- This bill would impose a 10 percent sales
tax on any transaction at an "adult bookstore" or an "adult
video store."
Maryland House Bill 75 -- This bill would prohibit the dissemination of video games that contain certain depictions of violence to anyone under
18, require labeling, and allow civil action.
Utah House Bill 257 -- This bill would amend the harmful to minors statute to prohibit the dissemination to minors of any material containing “inappropriate violence.” It would also add videos and video games to the materials covered by the law.
Oklahoma House Bill 3004 -- This bill would
expand the definition of material harmful to minors to include certain
violent content. This would
make it illegal to distribute or exhibit to a minor such material.
Louisiana House Bills 254 and 421 -- These bill would bar the sale,
rental, or display to minors of video games containing depictions of
characters violating certain Louisiana criminal laws. The bill also would
require segregation and add video games to the existing harmful to minors
law.
District of
Columbia Council Bill 16-0125 -- This bill would require video game
retailers to obtain a special license and prohibit the sale to minors of
video games with sexual content.
Delaware
House Bill 360 -- This bill would add violence as a type of content
that could be ruled harmful to minors.
Florida
Senate Bill 492 -- This bill would bar the sale of video games with
certain violent content to anyone under 18, impose fines, and require
labeling.
Louisiana House
Bill 1381 -- This bill would bar the sale, rental, or lease to a minor
of video games with certain violence. It would also create a
three-pronged test to determine what violent content would be considered
inappropriate for a minor.
